A. Description:
The Erebus Orifice is a synthesizer module designed for processing audio signals.
It is also capable of generating audio which can be manipulated with Control Voltage.
The Control Voltage is made possible with the help of a VTL5C3 vactrol.
Modulation sources providing 0-10v signals are ideal, 0-5v signals will work too.
The basic design of the Erebus Orifice is a tube preamplifier with a tweaked feedback path.

B. Inputs, Outputs and Controls
There are 3 jacks available:
Enter is where audio signals are to be inserted.
Exit is where audio leaves the module.
CV is where Control Voltage signals are to be inserted.
There are 2 knobs available:
Top knob controls feedback.
Bottom knob controls gain.
The purpose of a knob is to manipulate the behavior of the audio signal being heard.
Twist the knobs and observe the results.
Choose your own adventure.
There are only 2 directions to go: left or right.

C. Power details
The tube used is a 7 pin 6CB6 sharp cutoff pentode.
The use of the tube requires the user to have a power source capable of providing
150 mA of +5 and 30 mA of + and -15 on average load.
The plate voltage is 48 volts and there is no risk of injuring the user.

D. Mounting details
The module is designed to take up 1 space in a synthesizers.com cabinet
sometimes referred to as "MU" for Moog Unit.
The Erebus Orifice is not designed to recreate or emulate such circuits.
It is an addition to the large format modular system, not a clone of any other design.
Rear depth of the module is a shallow 1.9 inches.
Power connection is provided by a 6 pin MTA connector compatible with Synthesizers.com power distribution systems and QPS1 and QPS3 supplies.
The panel is 3mm thick aluminum with machine engraved print.
Panel will not flex or bend and print will not flake off.

E. Common applications:
1)Try feeding a square wave from your solid state analog
oscillator into the audio input.
*Patch the audio output into your VCA of choice.
*Set both of the Erebus Orifice knobs to the far right.
*Slowly turn the top knob to the left and listen to the sound.
*Now slowly turn the bottom knob to the left and listen to the sound.
*Now insert a sequencer CV output into the solid state oscillator CV
input and observe the sound.
*Feed the same sequencer into the Erebus Orifice CV input and
slowly adjust the knobs.
*Observe the sound.
*Twist the knobs.
*Observe the sound.
*Now patch a VCA in front of the Erebus Orifice audio input and
slowly open and close it with a modulator of your choice.
*Observe the sound.
*Twist the knobs.
*Observe the sound.
*Experiment with feeding wave shapes other than square
waves into the Erebus Orifice audio input.
*Observe the sound.

2) Patch the Erebus Orifice audio output into a VCA of your choice.
*Patch a sequencer of your choice into an attenuverter or CV
processor of your choice.
*Patch that processed CV source into the Erebus Orifice CV input.
*Leave the Erebus Orifice audio input unpatched.
*Twist the knobs right to left simultaneously.
*Observe the sound.
*Set the bottom (Gain) knob to the full right position.
*Now slowly turn the top (feedback) knob to the left.
*Observe the sound.
*Slowly turn the bottom knob right to left.
*Observe the sound.

3) Patch a noise source into Erebus Orifice audio input.
*Patch Erebus Orifice audio output into a VCA.
*Twist the knobs and observe the sound.
*Insert modulation source into CV input.
*Hit the VCA with a gate, trigger or pulse to get a percussive
snare like sound.
*Twist the knobs.
*Observe the sound.

4)Patch audio source of choice into Erebus Orifice audio input.
*Patch Erebus Orifice audio output into VCA of choice.
*Patch modulation source set to audio rates into
Erebus Orifice CV input.
*Twist the knobs.
*Observe the sound.
